PROBLEM
The U.S. military’s radio towers near the Pacific Ocean needed repainting every year due to corrosion. Poor surface preparation, poor application, and ordinary paints were used. Painting took approximately one week.
APPLICATION
First, the surface was prepared with hand tool cleaning, and old rust was removed with Cortec® VpCI®- 422. Then Cortec® VpCI®-375 primer was brushed on at 3-4 mils (75-100 microns). Finally, a topcoat of VpCI®-386 white at 2-3 mils (50-75 microns) was sprayed on the towers.
CONCLUSION
Cortec® offered a more effective way to protect and preserve the radio towers. The U.S. military’s use of Cortec® products resulted in a significant improvement in the condition of the towers. The products also provided outstanding corrosion protection.
