Wet Lay-up of District Cooling Plant

Challenge

Abu Dhabi Reem Island has more than 100 towers consisting of 1.4 million square metres of office space, 850,000 square metres of retail and community facilities the majority of which are complete with the balance expected to be completed within two years. Four district cooling plants with a capacity greater than 1,000m3 are proposed for the site, two of which are complete but the towers they are to support are not. The end clients had a requirement to mothball the facility for up to two years.

Application

Cortec VpCI technology was proposed on Reem Island to provide an environmentally friendly, cost effective solution:

  • VpCI-649BD was proposed and accepted by the client
  • Dosage of 0.4% was used to achieve 24 months protection

Total quantity of 2,970 Gallons equal to 164 drums were required.

Conclusion

Tabreed – Cooltech Energy adopted preservation (Wet Lay-up) with Cortec VpCI technology as it provided long term preservation against corrosion whilst minimising inspection, costs and replacement Vs traditional methods with effective corrosion protection on ferrous and non-ferrous lines in the district cooling system.
