Problem
The Rove Hotel is the first of five hotels being constructed by Emaar. These budget friendly hotels are located in Dubai Downtown, near Dubai Mall and the world’s tallest building, Burj Kalifa. This region has extremely saline soil, with some areas reaching 90,000 ppm of chloride content. In contrast, the Atlantic Ocean contains approximately 20,000 ppm of chlorides. These exposure conditions necessitated special considerations for the substructure mix design to ensure urability. MCI®-2005 was specified to increase the expected durability and service life of the structure.
Application
MCI®-2005 was used in more than 5,000 m3 of the substructure concrete.
Conclusion
MCI®-2005 was specified and used in the project due to its ease of application and ability to improve service life of the substructure. Since this hotel was built, three more have been completed using the same design.
