PROBLEM
A private chemical manufacturer needed to protect chemical equipment from corrosion during outdoor storage. The Minnesota environment would expose the equipment to a variety of weather conditions, including rain, snow, and humidity.
APPLICATION
The chemical manufacturer used a variety of Cortec® products to refinish the equipment. VpCI®-433 paint remover was thinned with another paint remover, VpCI®- 432, to enhance sprayability. This was air-sprayed onto the old paint to remove the existing coatings. Then the entire machine was washed with a 10 percent VpCI®-414 and water solution using a pressure spray washer. This removed all of the VpCI®-433 and old paint. With a Graco hand-held pot sprayer, the equipment was primed with VpCI®-373 Clear at approximately 3 mils (76.2 microns) and covered with a topcoat of VpCI®-386 Green between 5 and 6 mils (127-152.4 microns).
CONCLUSION
Cortec® products offered the chemical manufacturer an entire system for cleaning and coating their outdoor equipment. Concentrated VpCI®-414 was effective for surface cleaning at a 10 percent dilution rate. The manufacturer plans on using Cortec® products for the maintenance and upkeep of other production machinery.
