Challenge
One of the largest offshore oil producing companies was executing the project, The Delta project, a year ago where large compressors were installed offshore. Some of the spare compressors that were left standing idle experienced severe corrosion during this period. Company realised the need to apply a marketing leading, environmentally friendly solution to Clea, Preserve and Protect these assets.
Application
The conventional method of sandblasting was not considered, an environmentally friendly solution that had minimal disruption to reducing surface finish or tolerance was requested.
Loose rust was first removed by hand, the assets were then cleaned with Cortec’s organic, biodegradable rust remover: VpCI®-422.
The assets were hydro jetted with 5% VpCI®-414 alkali solution to neutralise the surface presenting a clean rust-free finish. All spare parts incorporated for the compressors are now cleaned and preserved for when they will be required in the future.
Conclusion
Cortec products were chosen as they are environmentally friendly, nitrite-free and provided long term corrosion protection once cleaned and all rust was removed.
Local manufacturer employees and a skilled on-site distributor reinforced why the company choose to work with Cortec on critical preservation projects like this.
