Preservation of Heat Recovery Steam Generation Tube Bundles

Challenge

Ten heat recovery steam generation tube bundles were fabricated by STS in five different modular designs. The client required protection of the internal surfaces of the heat recovery steam generation tube bundles.

Application

During the hydrotesting process, VpCI®-649  was added at 0.25% by weight to provide corrosion  protection of the internal systems. Hydrotest water was drained and the system was air dried. VpCI®-309SF was fogged into the coil bundles at a rate of 350gm/m3 using compressed air.

VpCI®-649 combines contact and volatile corrosion inhibitors along with anti-scalants in non-toxic formulation that is free from nitrites, phosphates, chromates, or heavy metals. VpCI®-309SF provides up to 24-month continuous protection.

Conclusion

The client was satisfied with the hydrotest additive and dry powder preservation products used as the alternative traditional methods like achieving negative dew points with superdry air or preserving under nitrogen and maintaining that atmosphere are costly and difficult to maintain. Cortec’s preservation system is time proven, does not need maintainance and minor losses within the system are accounted for in the dosages provided.
