Power Plant Equipment Preservation

Challenge
The Client had a large inventory of equipment in storage in need of corrosion protection. The warehouse is exposed to a harsh sea environment and the equipment was rusting. The customer required protection for their expensive equipment, the main items being turbine rotor shafts, spare boiler tubes, expansion joints, motors, valves, bearings, and electrical equipment.

Application

First, large metal expansion joints were cleaned using VpCI®- 422. VpCI®-337 was then sprayed on the surfaces and VpCI®- 132 foam pads were placed down before the joints were wrapped using Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. Valves, actuators, shafts, and bearings were first cleaned using VpCI®-414. Post cleaning, the equipment was sprayed with VpCI®-337 and wrapped in Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. Electrical panels and other electronic items were cleaned and protected with Electricorr® VpCI®-238, after which VpCI®-105 Emitters were installed in them, and complete assemblies were wrapped with VpCI®-126 Blue. Boiler tubes were fogged with VpCI®-309, the tube ends were sealed with Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film and placed in boxes that were also shrink-wrapped with Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. Prior to the preservation, the customer had to replace tarpaulin covers every six months due to damage caused by extreme heat and humidity. The covers have not needed to be replaced in three years since being covered with Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film.

Conclusion
Cortec® offered effective long term preservation of the customer’s equipment. After two years the customer conducted an inspection and no corrosion was found on any of the preserved pieces.
