Pipe Spool Preservation

Challenge
The customer needed to prevent the progression of corrosion to the interior of 60 pipes during several years of storage, as a backup for the LNG gas pipeline in a harsh outdoor environment. The pipes would be exposed to high humidity, salt air, and high winds. Protection was required for the interior surface of the pipes, as the exterior would be protected by cement.

Application
One end of the pipe was sealed with an end cap, Cortec® VpCI®-309 Powder was fogged in at a rate of 500 grams per cubic meter, and then the opened end was also sealed with an end cap. This would ensure the protection of the pipes for more than three years.

Conclusion
The customer was extremely satisfied their corrosion problems were addressed and solved in a timely manner with Cortec® products. Recently the pipes were opened showing no further corrosion had developed in the pipes which had initially shown some surface corrosion, the pipes that were initially corrosion free remained corrosion free.
