PROBLEM

Kongsberg Offshore manufactures metering skids to measure the volume of oil or gas coming from offshore fields. Pipework on the skids were hydrotested with water after mounting. The skids were then sent to their final destination where they could be stored for many months before operation. This equipment had strict requirements for cleanliness and no internal corrosion was accepted.

APPLICATION

Metering stations were hydrotested with a 500-ppm aqueous solution of VpCI®-641. After the hydraulic test, the solution was sent back to a storage tank for future use. VpCI®-609 was then fogged with a VpCI® fogging unit inside the openings at a ratio of 500 g per cubic meter (0.5 oz/ft3). Finally, the openings were capped to seal the installation. The VpCI®-609 was either left in place with no detrimental effect to the operations or simply flushed with water, and subsequently disposed of in the sea.

CONCLUSION

The Cortec® products demonstrated superior performance and were chosen
