Challenge
Company had a huge inventory of unprotected equipment in their warehouse. The warehouse is located close to the sea resulting in the equipment rusting. The customer required a solution to protect their equipment from corrosion while in storage.
Application
The large metal expansion joints were cleaned using VpCI®-422. Then VpCI®-337 was sprayed on the surface. VpCI®-132 foam pads were placed on the joints before being sealed using Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. The valves, actuators, shafts, and bearings were cleaned using VpCI®-414, sprayed with VpCI®-337, and sealed with Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. Electrical panels and other electronic items were cleaned, and sprayed with ElectriCorr® VpCI®-238 and VpCI® -105 Emitters were placed before complete assemblies were wrapped with VpCI® -126 Blue film. Boiler Tubes were fogged with VpCI® -309 and ends covered with Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film; the boiler tube boxes were also covered with Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. Prior to preservation, the customer had to replace tarpaulin covers every six months because of the heat and humidity that damaged them. For the past three years no replacement has been required since being protected with Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film.
Conclusion
Cortec’s full corrosion protection system offered an effective solution for the long term preservation during interruption of the customer’s equipment. After two years the customer conducted an inspection and no rust was found on any of the equipment preserved.
