NACE Islamabad Pakistan Section held a series of virtual technical webinars in collaboration with the Department of Metallurgy and Materials, University of the Punjab, Lahore. Cortec Middle East Experts spoke at their seventh technical webinar on “Mitigating Soil-Side Corrosion on Aboveground Storage Tank Bottoms” on November 9, 2020.

Khalid M. Abed, the Innovation & Strategy Director of Cortec Middle East, Rindert Algra from Inventure Technologies, and independent consultants Christopher Houghton and Antonio Martinez gave a presentation that was very informative, featuring field-proven experience about the causes, consequences, and solutions that can help asset owners and operators protect their tanks against soil-side corrosion. Extensive tank bottom inspection statistics were shared and the application of vapor phase corrosion inhibitors as mitigation barriers along with conventional cathodic protection was illustrated with extensive field data.

The moderator of the presentation was Ameeq Farooq, secretary, NACE Islamabad Pakistan Section and lecturer in the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, University of the Punjab, Lahore. The welcome address and closing remarks were delivered by Shafqat Ali, chair, NACE Islamabad Pakistan Section. After the closing of the webinars, MCQ’s quiz was conducted and the highest scorers were awarded certificates issued by the organizing committee.
