The project consisted of three underground floors with proposed roof parking. The parking accounted for 813 car spaces in addition to a one-story temporary steel structure car park accounting for 689 car spaces in adjacent plots prior to the construction of the underground car park. The high amounts of chlorides present in the soil posed a high risk of corrosion to the reinforcing steel bars. MCI®- 2005 was specified to achieve the required service life.
MCI®-2005 was used in more than 12,000m3 of concrete that is in contact with soil.
Due to the aggressive environment in Abu Dhabi, Cortec’s patented MCI® technology was specified to protect the reinforcement in the concrete and to extend the service life. Its migrating capability in addition to being bio-based gave it an advantage over the competition.
